Well, I’m finally back in the land of WiFi – that’s both good and bad. Good because I can update this blog. Bad because it forced me to take a couple of days to work on my photography class and finish final grading. But… That’s all done so now I’m planning on relaxing and exploring some more.
Thursday Started very early (4:30 am) to get a beautiful sunrise from the top of Powder Mountain. For my climbing friends, no I didn’t climb, I just drove my car to the summit. Lazy I know but expedient since I took off from there to go to Craters of the Moon in Idaho – 4 + hours away.
Craters of the Moon National Monument is amazing and somewhat surreal. A huge lava field with interesting formations and plant life. Even though it was in the high 90’s I spent a few hours exploring the many formations and taking photos. The few I posted here are only a small sample.
Friday, I decided to relax and roamed the Salt Lake City area and caught the latest Star Trek movie. I have to say I really like the Salt Lake area. The mountains to the East are majestic, the valley all the way above Ogden is beautiful and filled with not only the cities of Salt Lake and Ogden but vast farms and of course, the lake. Everywhere you look there is something interesting to see.
Saturday I decided to get a little history lesson. I packed my car and headed to Promontory Point, the place where the Golden Spike was planted to join the eastern and western rails. WHile there I watched a reenactment of the driving of the golden spike. Actually 4 gold and silver ceremonial spikes were driven into a ceremonial railroad tie. The actual final spike was a standard spike and after the politicians failed to drive it in, a railroad worker drove the final spike. Interesting!
Then it was on to Park City to begin my week long residence in a tiny studio condo. Saturday night and Sunday was spent grading photography projects and figuring out final grades. I finished that chore this morning (Monday) and now, after posting this, I think I will head out in search of some local scenery.
Don’t forget to check out the gallery. I will post more photos later.
Enjoy your day!
